Leaping into Freelance
There haven't been to many posts on here lately, and it's because I've been very busy with murami, and getting ready to buy a house in a whole new state. Along with that comes a decision to try my hand at freelance editing. I love the idea of working for myself, and I think I can handle the feast and famine lifestyle. I just am in the awkward position most freelancers are in when they start: I need freelance clients to be a freelance editor! I've looked into joining the Editorial Freelancers Association, but they're very NYC-centric and I'm sure each job that comes along is pounced on by 50 freelancers. There's also the ridiculous www.FreelanceWorkExchange.com, which seems to be just a get-rich-quick scheme, judging from the photo of the smiling man in a Mercedes. Then I actually signed up on SoloGig, though I don't know how much I'll get out of that.
